It always tips the scale. Consider the triumphalism of Anglican blogs that call themselves "Fulcrum" (we're balanced, you're not); "Thinking Anglicans" (we think, you're thoughtless); "Anglican Mainstream" (we're mainstream, you're fringe).
They are trying to say that the Promised Land of three legged stools, three streams and "via medias" has been found and they are it.
A true prophet will admit to being on the fringe and in the Wilderness... standing on principles yes but never supposing that those principles have anything to do with consensus or balance or even rational "thinking".
The fact is that the balance of orthodox Anglicanism has shifted in the past few months. Those that adhere to Cranmer's evangelical Reformed doctrine now find themselves increasingly on the fringe, or even in the ditch. By remaining in the "mainstream", orthodox prophets reaffirm it and permit theological disease to flourish.
